If you have searched “nursery near me” or “best nursery in Sharjah” and ended up with a dozen open tabs and no clear answer, you are not alone. Most nursery websites list the same generic claims — caring staff, safe environment, qualified teachers — without telling you what actually separates a good nursery from an average one. Here is a practical checklist.

Start With Curriculum, Not Marketing

Ask specifically which curriculum a nursery follows and why. British EYFS, Montessori, and American programmes structure a child’s day very differently. A nursery that cannot clearly explain its curriculum in plain language during a tour is usually not deeply invested in it — the explanation should be simple, not vague.

Visit Before You Decide, Not After

Photos on a website flatter every nursery equally. What matters is how a teacher actually talks to a child during a real classroom moment, how clean the bathrooms are on a normal Tuesday (not a scheduled visit day), and whether children look genuinely engaged or just supervised. If a nursery discourages drop-in visits, treat that as a signal.

Location Matters More Than It Seems

A nursery ten minutes further away sounds like a small tradeoff until you are doing that drive twice a day, every day, for two or three years. Check whether transportation is actually included or a separate line item, and whether the coverage area genuinely includes your neighbourhood — some nurseries in Sharjah only offer free transport within a small radius.

Ask About the Real Daily Schedule

Not “what activities do you offer” but literally what a child’s day looks like hour by hour: when meals happen, how much outdoor time there is, how naps are handled for younger children, and what happens if your child is dropped off earlier or picked up later than the standard window. This tells you more than any brochure.
